The historic center is compact and highly walkable, though Palamidi requires a steep climb or taxi. KTEL Argolida buses connect Nafplio with Athens, Argos and regional destinations; the Athens journey typically takes about two to two-and-a-half hours. Passenger rail service is currently suspended. Athens International Airport is the main gateway, and a car is useful for beaches and archaeological sites.
Tivat Airport is about 3 km from the center and handles heavily seasonal international traffic. Local and regional buses connect Kotor, Budva, Herceg Novi and Podgorica. The Kamenari–Lepetani ferry shortens road trips around the bay. There is no rail station, and taxis or a car are useful for Luštica and smaller beaches.
Monopoli railway station has frequent regional service along the Bari–Lecce corridor, making Bari, Polignano a Mare, Ostuni and Brindisi accessible without a car. The old town is walkable. Bari Airport and Brindisi Airport are the main gateways. A car is useful for inland villages and scattered beaches.

Residency & taxes
Orientation only. Verify pathways and personal tax treatment before acting.
Greece can be attractive operationally, though application timing and residency documentation should be mapped carefully.
Montenegro can be easier than some EU pathways, but local legal guidance still helps avoid avoidable delays.
Long-stay and elective residence pathways can work, but documentation, passive-income proof, and municipality-level details matter.
Greek residency and tax treatment may work well for some retirees, but practical setup details should be checked early.
Montenegro may offer flexibility and value, but formal tax and long-stay planning should be confirmed locally.
Tax treatment can be highly favorable in specific retiree-qualified municipalities, but eligibility must be verified before planning around it.
